Tips to follow when studying for the EmSAT test

To effectively prepare for the EmSAT exam, consider the following tips when studying for the test:

Get to Know About the Adaptive Test Format

The EmSAT exam is a computerised adaptive test. Meaning, the content and difficulty of the exam are customised to each test taker. For instance, if a test taker answers correctly, the next question will be more challenging. Similarly, if they answer incorrectly, an easier question will follow. This process continuously adjusts content for each test taker to maximise their performance and provide a more accurate measure of their ability.

Familiarise with EmSAT Subjects

EmSAT Achieve assesses grade 12 students’ proficiency in Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, Biology, Computer Science (Java, Python, C++), English and Arabic, based on institutional requirements. EmSAT is not mandatory. The choice of subjects depends on university requirements or the student's academic goals.

Organise Study Materials

One of the keys to success on any exam is organisation of study materials. Make sure you have all the materials you need, such as textbooks, class notes, exam guides and other materials.

Emsat syllabus can be described as a combination of Grade 11 and Grade 12 of prominent curricula like British and American. So, referring to the subject textbooks at the A level (British Curriculum) and textbooks from the American curriculum can give you an advantage during the test. Also if you are planning to score more than 75% then referring to AP subject specification will be an add-on advantage.

Create a Study Plan

To effectively prepare for the EmSAT exam, consider the following tips when studying for the test:

If you are aiming for a high EmSAT score;

  • Dedicate around 15-20 hours per week to comprehensive subject coverage,
  • Ensure that you study every topic in depth.
  • Incorporate targeted practice sessions that progressively challenge you with harder questions.
  • Take three levels of mock exams to simulate the test environment and identify areas for improvement.
  • In the week leading up to the exam, prioritise revision of challenging topics and practice exams.

For students aiming for an average EmSAT score;

  • Allocate about 10-15 hours per week to build a basic understanding of all subjects.
  • Take at least one mock exam to familiarise yourself with the format and timing
  • Schedule regular, shorter review sessions to reinforce basic concepts.

Start your EmSAT Preparation Well In Advance

Starting your EmSAT exam preparation will ensure that you have ample time to review all the necessary material before the Ministry of Education (MOE) announces the EmSAT exam dates. This is important because available slots for the exam tend to get booked quickly. Early preparation will give you a better chance of securing a preferred exam date.

There is no specific period to start preparing for the EmSAT. However,

  • If a student does not have a specific background in the subject, a minimum preparation duration of 3 months is suggested.
  • If the student has a background in the subject, a minimum preparation duration of 1 month is suggested.

Note that failing to secure a testing date could impact your admission chances. Make sure to keep an eye out for the announcement of testing dates, and once they're available, promptly schedule your exam in an available time slot.

Take EmSAT Mock Tests

The EmSAT exam is adaptive, meaning it adjusts the difficulty of questions based on your performance. However, the mock exams, including the ones available on the MOE website, are non-adaptive. To prepare effectively, we recommend conducting three levels of mock exams: Base Level, Intermediate Level, and Advanced Level.

Practice Previous Years Question Papers.

Practising previous question papers is crucial for any exam preparation. This process allows you to solve a variety of sample questions and reinforce your knowledge. This not only helps in boosting your confidence but also improves your performance on test day.

Most of all EmSAT exam practice should be done in a way by keeping the fact that the exam is either MCQ or Filled up. Many previous years' question papers are now available online. For instance, Edoxi’s EmSAT Chemistry Practice Test with Answers allows you to assess your understanding of key concepts in chemistry.

Get Familiar with the On-Screen Calculator

The EmSAT provides an on-screen calculator for students to use during the test. This eliminates the need to bring a personal calculator.

This on-screen calculator includes basic arithmetic functions as well as more advanced operations like trigonometric functions and logarithms.

To access it, simply click the "Calculator" icon on your screen during the exam. Understanding how to use this EmSAT on-screen calculator will give students a competitive advantage on exam day.

Take Care of your Health

Staying healthy is crucial during the exam preparation period. Get enough sleep, exercise regularly, and eat a balanced diet to keep your mind and body functioning optimally.

  • Get Enough Sleep: Make sure you get at least 7-8 hours of sleep every night to keep your mind fresh and alert.
  • Eat a healthy diet: Fuel your body and brain with a balanced diet rich in fruits, vegetables, whole grains, and lean proteins.
  • Stay hydrated: Drink plenty of water. Staying hydrated is a simple yet powerful way to enhance your study performance.
  • Take Regular Breaks: Taking regular breaks is essential to avoid burnout and to allow your brain to rest and retain information.

Tips to Follow During the EmSAT Test Day

To ensure a smooth experience on your EmSAT test day, keep the following tips in mind:

Avoid Last-Minute Cramming

Cramming at the last minute can lead to information overload and anxiety. Starting EmSAT entrance exam preparation early can help you avoid last-minute cramming.

You will have enough time to revise the material you have already studied and focus on improving your weak areas.

Prepare the Document the Day Before the Exam

Being prepared on exam day can help you avoid unnecessary stress and anxiety. Make sure you have all the necessary documents and arrive at the exam centre well before the scheduled time.

These are the documents the candidate needs to bring on the exam day: original passport or Emirates ID, copy of the hall pass, and a calculator (optional).

Do Not Neglect your Breakfast Before the EmSAT

A healthy breakfast can significantly impact your performance on the EmSAT by providing the necessary energy and focus needed to succeed.

Make Proper Use of the Reference Library

During the EmSAT test, you will have access to a feature called the "Reference Library" on your screen. This tool will provide you with a comprehensive list of all the formulas that you can utilise to solve various questions.

Remember to make use of the formulas provided in the reference library to solve questions.

Manage your Time Between the Questions During the Test.

Manage your time effectively while answering questions during the test. Remember that you must select an answer to move on to the next question, so choose wisely. If the next question is easier or from the same topic, it may give you clues about your previous answer, so be cautious—it’s possible that your earlier choice was incorrect. However, avoid spending too much time on any one question. Aim to spend an average of 120 seconds on each question, but try to answer easier questions more quickly. This way, you can allocate more time to the more difficult questions.

Follow the MOE guidelines and instructions.

Before attending the EmSAT exam, it is crucial to read and understand the MOE exam guidelines thoroughly. Key points to keep in mind include:

  • Bring your original Emirates ID and a copy of your test ticket, as copies or screenshots are not accepted.
  • Arrive at the test centre at least 30 minutes before the scheduled start time to allow for registration and security checks.
  • If you encounter any technical problems during the test, promptly inform the invigilators to ensure a quick resolution.
  • Before leaving the test hall, ensure you properly conclude your test session by clicking “I am Done” on the test interface to record your scores accurately.

Get Ready to Crack the EmSAT Exam

There is no one-size-fits-all approach to cracking the EmSAT exam. However, the above-mentioned tips can definitely help you prepare for the test. Get the necessary rest and eat healthy foods to boost your energy and concentration levels on test day.

Practice with past papers and familiarise yourself with the exam guidelines to reduce anxiety. Utilise the on-screen calculator and reference library effectively during the exam. Remember to manage your time wisely during the test and stay calm and focused.

Now that you have acquired effective tips to crack the EmSAT, it is time to hone your academics. All the best for your upcoming EmSAT!!
