The Certified Information Systems Security Professional (CISSP) exam is set to undergo some changes in 2022. The International Information Systems Security Certification Consortium, also known as (ISC)2, has recently announced that the CISSP exam will be updated in order to reflect the latest advancements in the field of information security. If you are planning on taking the CISSP exam in 2022 or beyond, it's important to be aware of these changes so that you can prepare yourself accordingly.

What are the Changes in the CISSP Exam?

Currently, the CISSP CAT exam contains 25 pretests (unscored) items. But there will be an addition of 25 more items in the new exam. Therefore there will be a total count of 50 pretest items. Also, currently, the number of items candidates need to respond to during the exam is 100-150. However, in the new exam, the minimum and maximum number of items candidates will need to respond to in the exam will be 125-175.

Due to the inclusion of these additional items, the maximum exam administration time will increase from three to four hours.

  • It is important to choose the best answer regarding pretest and operational (scored) items that are indistinguishable from each other.
  • Pretest responses will not impact final scores or pass/fail results.

Changes in Domain of the Exam

CISSP exam content remains unchanged. Both the domains and weights of the CISSP exam remain unchanged. Also, the exam outline has not changed.

How soon will the changes occur?

These changes impact candidates who are scheduled for the CISSP CAT exam on or after June 1, 2022.
