PMP Exam 2021 and Onwards 

PMI launched the new PMP exam on January 2, 2021, with major changes to the exam. The PMP exam is based on the Exam Content Outline (ECO). As of the date of writing this blog, PMBOK6  remains as the major reference (PMBOK is not the only reference for the PMP) for the PMP exam even though PMBOK7 has been digitally released by PMI in circa August 2021.

Utilize Major References Such As PMBOK 6 And Agile Practice Guide

PMBOK (Project Management Body Of Knowledge) Guide 6th edition and the Agile Practice Guide are the major references used for the PMP exam. PMBOK 6 introduced agile methodologies. 

The Agile Practice Guide is part of the PMBOK6. However, please note that the PMBOK is not the only reference for the PMP exam. Will the PMP Exam Change in 2024?

As of the date of writing this blog, there are no changes announced by PMI for the year 2024. The current exam is based on the Examination Content Outline (ECO), which began in January 2021. The same shall continue until further official notification by PMI. It is also important to note that PMBOK 7, released in August 2021, does not impact the current exam. It is because the PMP exam follows the ECO and not the PMBOK. Regardless, the PMI-RMP exam updates of 2024 have bought in changes to its domains and a few other key changes. The release of the updated exam of RMP is expected in April 2022.

PMP Exam Dates For 2024

You can take the PMP Exam from home (online proctored) or at a PMI Authorized Testing Center. Exams are happening daily, and when you complete your preparation, you can schedule your exam as per your preference and convenience. However, please note that the exam dates may not be available on short notice. Hence, booking your exam well in advance is recommended to attend the exam on the intended date. 

How To Apply For The PMP Exam in 2024? 

Before you apply for any exam, there are some procedures to be followed. This is especially applicable when you apply for the PMP Exam in 2024. To apply and schedule your PMP exam in 2024 you should:

  • Confirm your eligibility to attend the PMP exam (Eligibility requirements as outlined in
  • Take a professional training on PMP 
  • Create a account to register and begin your application 
  • Enter your information and complete the application form 
  • You will receive confirmation, and PMI may perform an audit 
  • Pay the exam fee within a year of application approval 
  • Carry out your PMP exam preparation plan 
  • Schedule the exam once you are ready 
  • Take the exam from the exam center or online at home with required documents such as photo ID, and pass the exam.

Requirements for PMP Certification

To earn your Project Management Professional (PMP) credential, you need to meet the experience and education requirements and pass the PMP examination, a 180-question, multiple-choice test. The prerequisites are:

  •  A four-year degree
  •  36 months leading projects
  •  35 hours of project management education/training or CAPM Certification

                               — OR —

  •  A high school diploma or an associate’s degree (or global equivalent)
  •  60 months leading projects
  •  35 hours of project management education/training or CAPM Certification
