2. PTE Core Exam Format

PTE Core is a newer test introduced by Pearson, primarily aimed at general English proficiency for immigration and work purposes in Canada. It was specifically launched to meet the requirements of Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) for various economic immigration programs, including Express Entry and Provincial Nominee Programs (PNPs), as well as for Canadian citizenship applications.

Scoring the PTE

PTE uses an advanced AI-based scoring system, ensuring accuracy and fairness. Scores are given on a scale of 10-90.

  • PTE Academic Scoring: PTE Academic includes 20 question types. These questions assess your English Language speaking, listening, reading, and writing skills. The exam is scored based on the complexity of the question. Your overall score is graded between 10–90.
  • PTE Core Scoring: PTE Core includes 19 question types.  The exam assesses your speaking, listening, reading, and writing skills. Scores are based on the complexity of the question. Your overall score is graded between 10–90.
