What is IELTS

What is the difference between Academic and General IELTS?

The IELTS exam has two versions: Academic and General, each with distinct purposes and scoring methods. The Academic IELTS is for higher education and professional registration, featuring complex texts in Reading and graph/chart descriptions in Writing Task 1.

The General IELTS is designed for migration, work, or secondary education, with simpler texts and letter writing in Writing Task 1. Both versions share the same Listening and Speaking sections, but their Reading sections have different scoring criteria. The exam is administered by IDP and the British Council.
